Census Timeline

UNDERSTANDING THE TIMING OF THE US CENSUS!

1.    Address Canvassing – NOW THROUGH OCTOBER 18th

Census workers, identified with a U.S. Census credential badge and Census marked computer, are currently canvassing neighborhoods to verify addresses for the upcoming Census.  They will provide you with a statement of confidentiality, and they are only asking residents to verify their address.

2.    American Community Survey – ONGOING

Some resident may receive a U.S. Census mailing that asks in-depth questions for data collection.  These surveys are randomly sent throughout the decade in between the 10-year Census and should not be confused with the census held every 10 years.  If you receive this survey, please complete and return but be aware it is NOT the 2020 census form that everyone will receive in March, 2020.

3.    2020 Census – INFORMATION WILL BE SENT TO RESIDENTS IN MARCH, 2020

This is the official census that is identified in the U.S. Constitution and is a count of all residents in the United States as of April 1st.  This census form asks just nine questions.  El Mirage city staff and a Complete Count Committee comprised of engaged community volunteers, business owners, school representatives, faith-based and non-profit organizations, are working to educate the community about the upcoming census count; if you have questions please go to the City’s dedicated Census website page, contact City Hall, or visit our Census booth at upcoming Special Events.
